How Will Artificial Intelligence Change the World in the Future?

by

Artificial Intelligence is not just science fiction, today with new evolving smart phones and smart applications, AI plays a major role in making user experience lively and engaging. Unlike science fiction of yester years in Terminator, Skynet, or A Space Odyssey, AI today is making human life easier through communications, understanding, and learning. AI has been growing in significance in the recent past, and there are many areas in Technology where AI is already employed.

If not for taking over the world, how else would Artificial Intelligence affect human life? The way AI has grown is not separately as a technology but has grown together with other technology either to support or enhance. On a broader look, statistics show that AI is growing at a phenomenal pace. Around 40% of enterprises around the world are already using some of kind of AI technology. This is expected to rise to 62% by just 2018. With such growth predictions investments for AI are already flowing in. The Artificial Intelligence market which was valued at USD $8 Billion is expected to rise to $47 Billion by 2020.

Here we would like to address some of the most common trends in Artificial Intelligence and also some of the concerns people have about Artificial Intelligence.

1. AI Gone Rogue:

This is what science fiction is made of. Could this become reality? Many consider if this ever becomes reality, it could actually happen now. It may not be where machines develop hate towards humans and take over the world but humans with bad intentions could use AI to carry out nefarious activity in the cyber world. AI’s deliberation would be used to crack into several systems which were previously thought as ‘un-hackable’. This could be costly in terms of already out dating national security systems and other major automated civil and defense systems.
In other terms some could use AI negatively to make monetary advantage and to compromise other AI technology. On a positive note, this could work the inversely and make AI even smarter and more secure as AI developers could make their technology immune to such attacks.

2. Growth in Machine Learning:

Machine learning through AI is one of the most commonly used applications across the world. This is widely seen in retail where retailers find customer moods and facial detection to help them with the products they might require or help them make their regular purchase faster. In the future facial and voice recognition machine learning could also help customers to track things they are looking for with ease.

In the e-commerce industry AI could help markets to learn about customer behavior, analyze buying patterns, and make the right suggestions to improve customer experience. While many of these are already in action, features like remarketing could be used with better efficiency through advances in AI technology.

3. Replacing White-Collar Jobs:

This is also one of the most pestering questions about AI for a very long time. Similar to robots replacing mechanical jobs in the factory, AI could easily replace the decision makers and the analysts in many industries. It is quite natural to understand that computers are more reliable and consistent with analytical jobs, which is their primary role. Humans are bound to make mistakes in decision making as they are influenced by a lot things, unlike computers which just follow given set of instructions and algorithms. AI could easily replace humans in data processing jobs very soon and humans would just have to find other ways to contribute productively.

4. Better User Experience and Interfaces:

One of the uses of AI in enhancing user experience has already been commonly used by many of us. Chat bots which many of us find annoying would soon become smarter with developing AI technology. Smart UIs will also revolutionize how humans interact and use technology in the future. As AI technology continues to evolve, it moves into a phase where human and AI communication would closely resemble human to human communication.

5. AI Optimized Hardware:

Graphics Processing Units, GPUs could become incredibly smarter with AI technology. As intelligence is being added to computers, hardware capabilities will also improve just like software. This would make many systems surprisingly intelligent with better and precise sensors. Overcoming the biggest hurdle in making hardware available for AI supported algorithms, AI system upgrades will be expedited by deep neural networks.
